Albert Binet
Binet began testing grade school children in 1904 France when school became mandatory and the children could not successful teach a group of children around the same age. Binet tested them instead of the teachers because the school system feared that the teachers would base their intelligence on their social status. He use an objective test to identify which children would have difficulties in regular classes. He deemed 'dull' children as children that preformed as a child who was younger them and therefore had a lower mental age, and 'bright' children performed as an older child and had a higher mental age.
Mental age: A measure of intelligence test performance devised by Binet; the chronological age that most typically correspond to a given level of performance. Mental aptitude: A general capacity that shows up in various of ways. |
